About Sun of Africa Drum & Dance Ensemble

Founded in 2011 and based in Adelaide, South Australia, Sun of Africa Drum & Dance Ensemble is a leading cultural performance group dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich artistic traditions of West Africa, especially those from Côte d’Ivoire.
With a deep passion for authenticity, we specialize in traditional African drumming (including the powerful rhythms of the djembe), energetic dance, and captivating mask theatre such as the Zaouli and Sapro—two iconic masked dances rarely seen outside Africa. We are proud to be the only ensemble in Australia that regularly performs these unique cultural art forms.

Our core offerings include:

Live Performances – High-energy, visually stunning shows for festivals, cultural celebrations, community events, and weddings.

Interactive Workshops – Engaging and educational drumming and dance sessions tailored for schools, corporate groups, and organizations.

Cultural Engagement – Programs that build cultural awareness, support diversity, and foster community connection through music and movement.

Whether performing on stage at major festivals like WOMADelaide or conducting workshops in local schools, our mission is to inspire, educate, and unite audiences through the universal language of rhythm and dance.
